There are several ways to travel from Velana International Airport (Malé) to the local islands where guesthouses are located. The available transfer options depend on the island and its distance from Malé.
Speedboat transfer
The most common and convenient option is a shared speedboat transfer. These boats have a large passenger capacity and operate regular scheduled departures. Depending on the island’s location, the journey usually takes around 1–1.5 hours to nearby atolls.
Private speedboat charter
For guests who prefer more flexibility or privacy, a private speedboat charter can be arranged. This option allows you to depart at a time that suits your arrival and offers a more personalized transfer experience.
Seaplane transfer
Some islands can also be reached by seaplane, either landing directly near the island or at a nearby resort. Seaplane transfers offer breathtaking views of the Maldivian atolls from above, but they are usually available only for certain destinations.
Domestic flight + speedboat
Another option is a domestic flight from Malé to a regional airport on a nearby island, followed by a short speedboat ride to your final destination.
Public ferry
Local public ferries also operate between islands. However, they are significantly slower, often taking several hours, and schedules may change or be cancelled without notice. For this reason, we generally do not recommend or arrange public ferry transfers for our guests.
Once you choose your island destination, we will provide detailed information about the available transfer options and gladly coordinate the transfer booking with your guesthouse.
Travel between the islands is part of the Maldivian experience — a journey across turquoise lagoons and scattered atolls. From the moment you land, we will help coordinate your transfer so that your arrival on the island is smooth and well organized.
